Abstract:
The majority of the records housed at the State Archives from Republic County come from the probate and district courts and consist of case files for estate administration and guardianship cases, and marriage licenses. The Archives also holds County Commissioners' journals of proceedings; County Clerk's registers for marriages, births, and deaths; and two small volumes of records from Scandia's City Clerk. Most of the records for this county are on microfilm.

Republic County is toward the center of Kansas, on the northern border with Nebraska. It was established in 1860 and named for the Republican River. The valley of that river was the seat of the Pawnee Republic, a major division of the Pawnee tribe.
Belleville is the Republic County seat. Townships include Albion, Beaver, Belleville, Big Bend, Courtland, Elk Creek, Fairview, Farmington, Freedom, Grant, Jefferson, Liberty, Lincoln, Norway, Richland, Rose Creek, Scandia, Union, Washington, and White Rock Township.
