Scope and Content

Scope and content: Two manuscripts by James Carney, regarding the history of psychoanalysis in Kansas, particularly in relation to Dr. Karl Menninger and the clinic he founded with his father and brother. Includes Carney's 1986 Master's thesis from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, "Karl A. Menninger's Psychoanalytic Odyssey, 1920-1950: Karl A. Menninger, Smith Ely Jelliffee, and the European Fringe Psychoanalysts," as well as an undated shorter article, "The Freudians Come to Kansas: Menninger, Freud, and the Emigre Psychoanalysts." The thesis is 150 pages typed double-spaced with an abstract, table of contents, preface, and acknowledgements; the shorter article is 32 pages double-spaced with a letter from an Irv on staff at the Menninger Foundation (apparently not Irving Sheffel) critiquing the article.
