Scope and Content
Scope and content: Consists of Edwin Menninger's diaries from trips with his parents and brothers to Winona Lake, Indiana, when a youth or teenager. Includes both handwritten and typed entries, typically noting what Edwin did that day, such as fun activities, Sunday School, walking trips around the region, practicing the violin, temperance meetings, etc.; as well as the weather and what other family members were doing. Diaries typically include photographs, postcards (such as pictures of Winona Lake and its environs, Chicago, or other locales from Edwin's trips), newspaper clippings, souvenir programs, and other materials related to that day's events. Also in the series is a bird-watching notebook, with pictures from magazines of birds and scientific information about them; as well as a photograph album from 1915 for a trip Edwin and his elder brother Karl took to visit the San Francisco World's Fair.
