Biography

Biog. Sketch (Full): Ramon Frances Noches was born in Junction City, Kansas, on March 4, 1918 and graduated from Junction City High School class of 1936. He was a popular athlete and lettered in football and track. Following graduation he attended Kansas State University, and later transferred to Emporia State University. In 1939, he married Rose M. Newman of Lawrence, Kansas. In 1943, he was accepted into the flying training program at Tuskegee graduating with the pilot class of 1944D. On June 6, 1945, at 12:25 AM, while on a B-25 training flight from Godman field, his plane crashed on takeoff from Gunter Field Alabama. Ramon and Rose had twins, Ramon Crespin Noches, Retired Colonel USAF and Ramona Christina Noches Brice who was a officer in the Army Reserve Nurse's Corps and retired from the Veteran's Administration after 30 years as a nursing epidemiologist.

Scope and Content

Scope and content: A scrapbook compiled by Ramona Christina Noches Brice documenting the life of Ramon Frances Noches and family members. He was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, graduating with the pilot class of 1944D. He died when a B-25 training bomber crashed near Godman Field, Kentucky, in June, 1945. Other family materials are included in the collection including a newspaper article with a photograph of Ramon Brice with Alex Haley autographing his copy of Roots and the autograph.
