Hodges Brothers Lumber Company Records

Abstract: The records of the Hodges Brothers Lumber Company include unbound records, 1893-1917, and letterpress volumes, 1903-1906; ledges and day books, 1888-1904; cash books, 1889-1892; a historical sketch of the firm; and a published pamphlet celebrating the 50th anniversary of the company. Also included is a Warren Land and Lumber Company cash book, dated May through December of 1894. The collection also includes records from Frank Hodges's service as mayor of Olathe and correspondence of George H. Hodges while he was a state senator.

Administrative History: The Hodges Brothers Lumber Company began in 1888 when George H. Hodges purchase the Charles Pettigrew Lumber Yard. Frank Hodges joined as a partner about two years later. The company was based in Olathe, Kansas. In addition to his lumber business, George Hodges later became the nineteenth governor of Kansas, serving between 1913-1915. George Hodges died in 1947 while Frank Hodges died in 1962.
