Abstract: The collection consists of copies of Orlin Graves' papers, including information about his father and grandfather. Graves was born in Neosho Falls in 1873 and was a lawyer and assistant district attorney in Oklahoma after 1898, along with being an assistant to the solicitor in the Department of the Interior in Washington, DC. His father Charles B. Graves served in the Kansas 9th Cavalry in the Civil War and was later a lawyer and judge in Emporia, serving on the Kansas Supreme Court from 1906 to 1910; his Quaker grandfather Pusey Graves was a homesteader in Kansas and served as probate judge in Woodson County. Before moving to Kansas he had taken an active role in the Underground Railroad in Indiana and participated in the California Gold Rush.

The collection includes brief papers regarding various Graves family members, mostly Charles Graves and his life in Wayne County, Indiana and in the Civil War and in Kansas; and the memoirs or reminiscences of Orlin Graves, including describing growing up in Neosho Falls, Burlington, and Emporia.
