Abstract: The collection consists of notes, typed transcripts of original documents, correspondence, and other such materials from Alberta Pantle's research into French settlement in Kansas, particularly in Chase and Marion counties such as around Florence and Cottonwood Falls. The collection is in alphabetical order by topic; most of the topics are either specific individuals or French names, though other topics include Indians, Bastille Day, Catholic Church, census or naturalization records, Florence, French society, miscellaneous, etc. Typed copies of original documents include newspaper articles, correspondence with the Kansas governor, and the like. Pantle was a cataloger in the Kansas State Historical Society Library in the middle of the twentieth century; the materials she researched all date from the mid-nineteenth through the mid-twentieth century and do not necessarily relate to the fur trade or other earlier French explorers and settlers.
