Biographical sketch: Balfour Jeffrey was the president of the Kansas Power and Light Company (KP&L). He became president of the company in 1956 and was elected chairman of the board of KP&L in May of 1975. Jeffrey was also chairman of Stormont-Vail Health Services Corporation. He resigned his KP&L chairmanship in December of 1978.

Abstract: Scrapbooks dated 1956-1978 containing clippings, publications, photographs, and other public relations materials documenting the expansion of the Kansas Power and Light Company (KP&L) between 1956-1978. The records document new facilities being built, including the Jeffrey Energy Center in Pottawatomie County, as well as the Emporia service center. The scrapbooks also document Jeffrey's public appearances, awards and recognitions, and several KP&L building projects. Also included are KP&L shareholder meeting minutes, KP&L managers meeting materials, Jeffrey's speeches to various clubs and organizations concerning energy topics, and correspondence. The files are organized by topic or type of record.
