Folder 1:
1) Letter dated Nov. 10, 1905 written to “Mr. Martin” in which Hodder states that there is a rule at KU against awarding honorary degrees.
2) One page advertisement from Charles L. Cooney, dealer in antiques, Boston.
3) 3 letters dated 1923 July 25, Aug 21, and Sept. 26 from Charles L. Cooney regarding the purchase and shipping of a pike originally belonging to John Brown.
4) Letter dated 1923 Oct. 22 regarding Hodder’s inquiry into pay records of John S. Cunningham and his service at Harper’s Ferry, Va. (now W. Va.) at the time of John Brown’s raid.
5) Letter dated 1924 Dec. 13 from the Art Institute of Chicago director in which he lists prices of reproductions of portraits of George and Martha Washington.
6) Letter dated 1927 Mar. 5 from Winfred Porter Truesdell, editor, The Print Connoisseur, offering to sell a reproduction of a portrait of George Washington.
7) Photocopy of letter written by George Washington in Oct. 1776.
8) Letter purported to be written by K. C. Wang of China in which he requests a job; seems to be a joke letter.
9) 6 pages of notes on historical matters Hodder was researching.
10) 5 letters of correspondence regarding purchase of reproductions of George Washington.
11) Note dated 1927 Jan. 5 from Archer B. Hulbert responding to request for maps of “Trails” to be sent.
12) Letter from Archer B. Hulbert dated Dec. 31 in which he describes his experience tracing western trails and offers to sell set of trails maps for whatever the university can pay.
13) Copies of original autographs of Thomas Nast, Josh Billings, Marlborough, and 2 others which are not identifiable.
14) Letter from W. J. Ghent dated 1928 Sept. 1 asking Hodder to clarify Ghent’s question regarding the main crossing of the Oregon Trail: Topeka or Uniontown.

1) Two page typewritten list entitled “Notes on Slides for Lincoln Lecture.”
2) A black notebook containing letters, newspaper clippings, a Christmas card depicting Lincoln, photos, magazine articles, and various notes kept by Hodder in regard to Lincoln sculptures and paintings.

Biography
Biog. Sketch (Full):
Frank Hodder was born in Aurora, Illinois, in 1860. He graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1883. After stints of teaching and study in the East and in Europe, he came to the University of Kansas in Lawrence in the 1890s and became head of the Department of History in 1908.
In 1895, he wrote Government of the People of Kansas which was a source of controversy to some Kansas politicians and the subject of an attack by John Speer and others. Hodder decided to never again write on local Kansas history. He was a recognized authority on Western United States history and was president of the Kansas State Historical Society at the time of his death in 1935.
