Scope and content: The documents in this file contain requests or recommendations from various individuals concerning appointments in the State of Kansas. This description covers only a few of the letters in this file. A letter on February 27, 1877, from J. V. Shank, informs Governor Anthony that lands located at the Kaw Indian Reserve are expected to come into the market for sale soon and asks for help with getting an Agency. In the letter, Shank also requests the Governor's assistance with securing an appointment as Agent. A letter on March 9, 1877, from Henry Bogen, requests assistance in securing the appointment as Local Agent for the sale of University Lands. A letter on March 17, 1877, from T. J. Anderson, regarding the appointment of Brigadier General. A letter of recommendation on April 21, 1877, from John P. St. John for E. H. Waldron.
