Scope and content: The documents in this file pertain to matters related to the Paris Universal Exposition of 1878 Fairs. This description does not cover all the letters in this file, only a few. A letter on May 28, 1877, from J. W. Jackson, requests an appointment as a representative of the State of Kansas at the Paris Exposition. A letter on January 2, 1878, from F. W. Seward, Acting Secretary of the Department of State, encloses a copy of the Joint Resolution of Congress regarding the International Industrial Exposition in Paris. A letter on April 23, 1878, encloses the commission of Mason D. Sampson as Honorary Commissioner to represent the State of Kansas at the Exposition in Paris. A letter of application on January 16, 1878, from E. L. Meyer for one of the appointments as a Representative for Kansas in Paris. In the letter, Meyer provides a list of personal acquaintances.
