Scope and content: The documents in this file are related to the protection of school lands. This description does not cover all the documents in this file. A telegraph on August 18, 1877, from S. J. Crawford in Kansas City, Missouri, states school lands are secured. A report on August 14, 1877, from J. A. Williamson, Commissioner of Lands in the Department of the Interior, concerning the decision and protection of lands in sections 16 and 36 with regard to school lands in the law of them in Native American reservations. A letter from J. A. Williamson on October 1, 1877, encloses a copy of instructions issued to the Register and Receivers on the selection of lands. A letter on December 27, 1877, from F. D. Hunt, asks for information on the school lands secured such as the number of acres and where the land is located.
