This description does not cover all documents in this file. A report on January 4, 1875, discusses an investigation of the destitute occurring from the drought and ravages of the grasshoppers in the North-Western portion of Kansas. A letter on January 11, 1875, from M. S. Caplice of St. Mary, Kansas, about the destitute people in his vicinity and requests relief. A copy of a list of clothing issued to the destitute in Kansas in January 1875. A letter from Whitelaw Reid writes to Kansas Governor Osborn concerning the relief fund.
