Scope and content: The following letters to Kansas Governor Osborn are regarding relief aid provided to the destitute in Kansas from the government as a result of the drought and grasshopper invasion. In several of the letters, citizens in counties across Kansas inform the Governor the aid package provided to them is not enough and request more provisions. A letter on May 10, 1875, from residents of Crawford County, ask Governor Osborn if there is something he can do to provide more assistance in their township as there is no work or employment available. A letter from Sam Walker of Lawrence, Kansas, states there is a large number of men who are not able to get work to support their families and have requested him to ask for aid from the state as they have no money. Additional letters from citizens of Kansas address the situation of the families in their town or county to the Governor.
