Biographical sketch:
Carl G. Ossmann was registered architect 49 in the state of Kansas, serving as Shawnee County's architect during the 1990s, and as a former Kansas state architect when appointed to the position in 1977 by Governor Robert F. Bennett. He was born on April 28, 1911, in Concordia, Kansas, to parents who immigrated from Germany. He attended Concordia schools and Kansas State Agricultural College, now Kansas State University, in Manhattan. He operated Ossmann Associates, an architectural firm located in Topeka, Kansas.
Ossmann was involved in several remodeling projects of the Shawnee County Courthouse, and did the design work when a fourth floor was added to the north wing during the 1990s. He also designed the Northwest Kansas Medical Center in Goodland and several nursing homes across the state. His work also included several Boogaarts grocery stores during the decades when that chain was expanding rapidly across Kansas, the student recreation center at Kansas State University in Manhattan, the Topeka Fire Department's Station 10 at 2010 S.W. 37th and the former Polk Elementary School, also in Topeka, between 12th and Huntoon on Polk, now part of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.
Additionally, he raised Angus cattle for about forty years. Ossmann died on January 15, 2002, at the age of 90.
