Summary: This photo shows the Piggy-Back Service offered by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. In most instances, truck trailers were loaded and taken to a point where they were loaded on flat rail cars. They were shipped by rail for part of their route and then by road until they reached their final destination. This service is also known as intermodal transport, which means it involves more than one form of transportation.
