Since 1976, the land along the Smoky Hill River southeast of Salina has been home to a nonprofit organization known as The Land Institute. Founded by Wes Jackson and Dana Jackson, The Land Institute has spent the last 50 years leading efforts to transform agriculture and secure a sustainable future. This presentation by Chris Reimer of The Land Institute tells the story of The Land Institute while situating it within the environmental history of Salina, Kansas, and the prairie. The museum will be open during this time from 5 to 8 p.m. and admission will be free. Adam Hodge, head of reference in State Archives, will introduce attendees to the new special exhibit Kansas 1776: A Dynamic Landscape at 5:30. The Museum After Hours program starts at 6:30.
