Abstract: The collection consists of secretary's books (with copies of the club's articles of incorporation) as well as loose copies of meeting minutes, correspondence, treasurer's financial records, meeting programs & other printed materials, annual reports, and other such records. Included is a charter, 1928, and annual meeting records of the Good Government Club of Kansas, founded by the Topeka Good Government Club. The records reflect the members' interests in suffrage and legislative issues and are dated 1903-1906 & 1920-1939 with the bulk of the materials from the 1920s & 1930s.

Administrative History

Administrative History: The Topeka Good Government Club existed in the first half of the twentieth century as a not-for-profit organization working for the maintenance of a Legislative Department that promoted laws and ordinances, for the betterment of women, children, and the home; civic betterment; legislation and national and educational topics.

Originally it was organized in 1903 as an auxiliary organization to the State Equal Suffrage Association, with its focus on stimulating the individual effort and development of women along all industrial, legal, and educational lines, along with securing suffrage for women. In 1920, after suffrage was made legal for women nationally, the club reorganized its duties and plans accordingly, still with a focus on developing women's interests and education and ensuring equality between them and men.
