  • Took his first airplane ride in 1922
  • After a few days of pilot lessons, the trainer he flew was sold to men in Bird City
  • Followed the plane and gained flying experience as a barnstormer in the Midwest
  • Gained fame with non-stop flight from New York to Paris in 1927
