Emily Bradbury grew up in Haysville, a suburb of Wichita. She received a bachelor’s degree in history from Washburn University in 2000. She worked for two years as the executive assistant to former Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh. There she became involved with Kids Voting Kansas. She served as executive director of Kids Voting Kansas from 2002 until 2007 when she became assistant director and director of member services for the Kansas Preservation Alliance. She reassumed the position of director for Kids Voting Kansas in 2011.

Bradbury was named one of Topeka's 30 under 30 in 2005. She currently serves on the Madison Library Board. She is a member of PEO International and the William Allen White Community Partnership, Inc., in Emporia.

She and her husband, Ryan, live in Madision and have two children.

Bradbury was first elected to the Kansas Historical Foundation Board of Directors in 2017.
