- Left Texas home at age 15 to pursue education in North
- Sacrificed teaching position to protest segregation at Walker School where she taught in Johnson County
- Taught students in parents’ living rooms in protest
- Said “Schools shouldn’t be for a color. They should be for children.”
- Successfully helped desegregate Walker School in 1948
