Harry Sinclair
(1876 - 1956)
- Born in Virginia, grew up in Independence
- Acquired White Oil Company in 1901
- Formed Sinclair Oil in 1916
- By the end of the 1920s his company was producing 80,000 barrels of oil a day and had more than 900 miles of pipeline
- His involvement in government oil leases became part of the Teapot Dome scandal and led to a short prison term
