Lorenzo Lewelling

- Born in Iowa
- Moved to Wichita in 1887 where he eventually became interested in politics
- An early member of the Farmers’ Alliance, he was elected in 1892 as the first Populist Party governor
- After losing his reelection bid, he was elected a Kansas state senator, a position he held until his death
