Kansas State Symbols
Happy Kansas Day!
Kansas became the 34th state on January 29, 1861. Today January 29th is known as Kansas Day, and it is a great time to study Kansas state symbols and what life was like for those people moving to the new state of Kansas in the mid to late 1800s.
Symbols help provide Kansans with a sense of place and identity. They are things that have come to represent Kansas over time.
Kansas State Symbols -Official state symbols are those that have the seal of approval from the state legislature and the governor. These are written into law.
