Crystal L. Walker Ecton lives in Gridley. She grew up in Osawatomie. She attended Washburn University where she was a two-time All-American on the basketball team graduating in 2004.  She was inducted into the Washburn Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.  

Ecton taught Kansas History and Geography at Shawnee Heights Middle School where she coached both basketball and volleyball until 2010. She currently teaches Social Studies at Madison High School.  She serves as Student Council Sponsor, organizes the annual Veterans Day Assembly, and coordinates the Junior class Oral History Project each year.  At Madison, Ecton serves as a mentor for new teachers, is on the PLC leadership committee and calendar committee.   

She is a member of the Kansas National Education Association, and was previously an active member of the National Council for Public History. She is currently working on her master’s degree in history at Pittsburg State University.

Ecton is married to Jarrod Ecton who farms and ranches.  They reside on a farm outside of Gridley with their three sons.

She was first elected to the Kansas Historical Foundation Board of Directors in 2007.
