Katie Herrick grew up in Oklahoma where she developed a love of history. She moved to Stanton County when she married her husband, Kendall Herrick a third generation farmer. Their home is located on the site of the original homestead. The Herricks have two daughters.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Nazarene University. She completed graduate work in culture and policy studies at the University at Buffalo.
Herrick began her career as a secondary social studies teacher. She is certified in secondary and elementary education. In 1992 she became the director of the Stanton County Museum in Johnson City.
She served as president of the Kansas Museums’ Association. She has been a volunteer leader in Girl Scouts of America, a board member of the Bear Creek Literary Society, a member of the Manter Dam Preservation, and on the Stanton County Elementary School site council.
Herrick works to inspire Kansans to become knowledgeable and excited about their history. She was first elected to the Kansas Historical Foundation Board of Directors in 2006.
